Malaysian Shawl

I got [this shawl] from Terraganu, Malaysia, a remote place in NE Malaysia.

Chinese Evening Bag

It is a small evening bag, with the traditional Chinese good luck knot

Purse from Hill Country of Thailand

I brought this little purse from some Hill Country people who came into the little eatery where I was sitting in Chiang-mai, Thailand, to sell goods to tourists.

Indian Fabric

I just bought [this green fabric from India] b/c I liked it from a little shop in Varnasi, India.

Tibetan Scroll

The Mantra lil wall hanging with the 5, I think, symbols(letters) written vertically....I bought it at the Monkey Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Scarf from China

This scarf was bought in Beijing in about 2004. My friend and I were going shopping at a clothes market center and found this scarf very special in design. Besides traditionally used as a scarf, it can also be worn as a belt ornament.

Scarf from China

This scarf was bought in 2006 during my trip to Weihai, Shandong Province. Weihai is a port city in east China and clothes there are very fashionable and cheap. My mother bought this for me as a gift for my upcoming graduate study in US. She chose this purple one because this color in China symbolizes prestige, rich, and honor. In traditional Chinese society, officials’ uniforms were ranked by color and purple robes were for the most eminent ones. Thus, mother gave it to me as a good wish for my
future.

Hmong Applique

This piece was given to me around 1979 or so, by a friend from college. He had traveled to Thailand to help with processing refugees from Vietnam.

Shirt from Vietnam

The silk fabric that I contributed was from ...a knee length kimono type shirt like those worn by South Vietnamese women. [ES]
