This blog concerns the Virtual Friendship Quilt being created by the Asian Studies Project at East Carolina University. Contents will be drawn from contributions made by owners of Asian textiles who lent them for use on the Asian Studies web site.

Hi, my first posting here. :) I wanted to say that I really love the idea of "friendship guits"! The textiles from various places speak to me about unique arts, artifacts, and traditions of each culture. Also, at the same time, the textiles speak to us about the "commonarity" that we have among various cultures. So often, we focus too much on cultural differences but at the basic level we really are similar at the same time.
This Friendship Quilt is so impressive! It allows me not only to see the different styles of textiles from many Asian countries but also inspires me to explore the distinct cultures inside them.
The colors and patterns of these textiles represents different customs and arts in varied countries. They could tell us many fascinating stories that help us know people's lives in those places.
