Chinese Blouse

The cloth for this made-to-measure blouse was bought in the summer of 2006 in a silk store on Xizhimennei in Beijing, PR China Both the main cloth and the inside lining of the blouse are silk. The tailor who made the blouse has a shop inside the silk store. He also created the buttons for this blouse. The style is an updated and shortened version of the traditional Qi Pao dress that fell out of favor after the Communist Party took over power in 1949. In recent years, Chinese women have rediscovered the beauty and appeal of the Qi Pao. Women in Shanghai in particular are known to wear the Qi Pao again in similar fashion as common during the 1920s to 1940s.
